NEW WASTE COLLECTION DAYS FOR ABITA SPRINGS

Waste Collections Days for the City of Abita Springs is:

 Tuesday

As a reminder, we ask that you put your Garbage cart out the night before your scheduled pick-up day or prior to 6:00 am on your scheduled day for service.

An additional cart may be purchased for $65 or you can purchase an extra cart from your local Hardware Store.


For Recycling
:

Monday

Effective July 1st, the collection day for Recyclables for the entire Town of Abita Springs will be every Monday.

Please leave your recyclables loose in the cart. Do not put in trash bags as these bags are not recyclable.
Here is a list of accepted recyclable materials.

ACCEPTABLE ITEMS:

Cardboard

(Yes, all those Amazon boxes!)

  • Mixed Office Paper
  • Magazines/Catalogs
  • Newspapers
  • Shredded Paper *the shredded paper must be in a clear bag.

Plastics - Numbered 1 & 2

If you do not see a 1 or 2 on the plastic – do not put in recycling.

  • Cooking Oil
  • Milk Jugs
  • Cleaning Agents
  • Laundry Detergents
  • Bleaching Agents
  • Shampoo Bottles

Aluminum Food & Beverage Containers

UNACCEPTABLE ITEMS:

Plastics – numbered 3-7

  • PVC – pipes, pool liners, supply jugs, twine
  • LDPE – ziplock bag, grocery bags, bread bags, trash bags, six-pack rings, lids for containers
  • PP – diapers, margarine containers, straws, juice bottles, party cups, medicine bottles, sealable food containers, reusable cups
  • PS – plastic utensils, coffee cups, yogurt containers, to-go containers, trays
  • PC – baby bottles, CDS, safety glasses, headlight lenses

Metals

  • Ferrous metals, larges sheets for tin or aluminum

Metal Waste - non recyclable

Organic Waste

Food waste or liquids.

No Glass

No glass will be accepted.

KNOW YOUR PLASTICS

PET 1 includes soda and water bottles, food containers, personal care products, liquid hand soap, and shampoo bottles.

The easiest way to tell what type of plastic you are dealing with is to look
on the item and find the recycling logo with a number inside.

KNOW YOUR PLASTICS

HDPE 2 includes milk jugs, coffee containers, condiment bottles and detergent bottles.

We accepts all HDPE containers but do not accept grocery bags.

If you cannot find a 1 or 2 on the plastic then it is best to not throw it in the recycle bin.

Plastic Recycling Codes

DEBRIS PILES/GREEN WASTE

We pick up Green Waste weekly.  Residents may call Coastal Environmental Services directly at 985-781-3171 to schedule a pickup for a large pile.  It may take up to two weeks for removal.

Green waste defined:  Grass, leaves, flowers, stalks, stems, Christmas trees, and tree trimmings that are generated by a Producer and not by a third-party contractor or commercial tree cutter.  Tree trunks and limbs shall not exceed 50 lbs. in weight or 12” in diameter.  Trees, limbs, branches, etc should be bundled and tied.  Leaves should be containerized or bagged.  All of the preceding in a pile not to exceed 15’ long, 6’ wide, and 5’ high.
